Neeraj Chopra leads Indian contingent at the Asian Games opening ceremony

Asia’s largest multi-sports event Asia Games 2018 kicked off today and will run until September 2.  After a 56 – year wait, Indonesia is hosting the Asian Games for the second time.
The opening ceremony of Asian Games is being held at the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) stadium in Jakarta. The popular Indonesian singers, such as Anggun, Raisa, Tulus, Edo Kondologit, Putri Ayu, Fatin, GAC, Kamasean and Via Vallen performed at the event. From India star, javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra bears the tricolor as he leads the Indian contingent at Gelora Bung Karno during the opening ceremony of Asian Games 2018.  As the young champion was leading with the Indian flag along with other Indian athletes received a huge applaud from the crowd. The 20-year-old Neeraj is the reigning Commonwealth Games champion and junior world record holder in the the javelin. He is one of the bright gold medal prospects in this edition of the Asian Games.
Indonesian President ‘Joko Jokowi Widodo’ was seen appearing on a bike for the opening ceremony of the 18th Asian Games after performing a few little stunts on the way to the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium.
The stage of the opening ceremony have a mountain as background along with plants and flowers, the stage measures 120-metre length, 30-metre width and 26-metre height. Represented by 572 athletes in 36 sports (312 men, 260 women), the Indian contingent will aim to better the showing at the previous Asiad in Incheon, South Korea, where they finished eighth with 11 gold, 10 silver, and 36 bronze medals.
This year, around 12,000 athletes from 45 countries will compete in 40 disciplines.
