DMK Chief Karunanidhi passes away at the age of 94!

Former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and President of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, Muthuvel Karunanidhi took his last breath in Kauvery Hospital, Chennai at 6.10pm on Tuesday. He was 94.
The passing away of Karunanidhi, the charismatic five-time Chief Minister and the oldest political leader in India who ruled the political arena for more than six decades fighting for regional aspirations have left DMK supporters in deep sorrow who were gathered in large numbers outside the hospital. For Kalaignar’s burial, DMK moves Madras High Court against Tamil Nadu government’s decision denying space for M Karunanidhi’s burial at Marina beach. Madras High Court acting Chief Justice Huluvadi G. Ramesh has reportedly agreed to hear the case.
“With deep anguish, we announce the demise of our beloved Kalaignar M Karunanidhi on 07.08.2018 at 6.10 pm.  Despite the best possible efforts by our team of doctors and nurses to resuscitate him, he failed to respond,” Executive Director of Kauvery Hospital Dr Aravindan Selvaraj said in a press release. An indication that the battle was lost and hopes began fading of a recovery came at around 4.30 pm when the hospital issued a statement saying that Karunanidhi was “extremely critical and unstable.
M. Karunanidhi’s ‘fewer contributions to Tamil literature through his poems, letters, screenplays, novels, biographies, historical novels, stage-plays, dialogues, and movies earned him the moniker ‘Kalaignar’ which means ‘artist’ He has also contributed to the Tamil literature through art and architecture, he constructed a 133-foot high statue of Thiruvalluvar, a Tamil poet, and philosopher, at Kanyakumari. He became the oldest serving Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu when he assumed office as Chief Minister in 2006.
Expressing his condolences on the death of DMK patriarch Karunanidhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted “Deeply saddened by the passing away of Kalaignar Karunanidhi. He was one of the senior most leaders of India. We have lost a deep-rooted mass leader, prolific thinker, accomplished writer and a stalwart whose life was devoted to the welfare of the poor and the marginalized”.  The PM will travel to Chennai on Wednesday morning to pay his last respects to Karunanidhi.
Congress chief Rahul Gandhi said Karunanidhi strode the stage of Tamil politics like a colossus for six decades and in his passing India had lost a “great son”. “Loved by the Tamilian people, Kalaignar strode the stage of Tamil politics, like a colossus, for over 6 decades. In his passing, India has lost a great son. My condolences to his family as also to the millions of Indians who grieve for their beloved leader tonight,” he tweeted.
Tamil Nadu Government has declared a government holiday tomorrow. National flag will fly at half mast tomorrow in Delhi and all other state capitals as well. The flag will fly at half mast throughout Tamil Nadu.
Like Jayalalitha, Karunanidhi was also an expression of the voice of the  Tamil people.
The DMK chief was admitted to hospital as his health condition worsened and he was being treated for fever due to a urinary tract infection at his residence in Gopalapuram, Chennai. Following a drop in his blood pressure, Karunanidhi was hospitalized in the wee hours of 28 July.
