Hima Das proves what hardworking and being Indian means!

Hima Das, who hails from Assam scripted history by winning the gold medal in the women’s 400metre event at the IAAF World U-20 Championships held at Tampere. She has become the first Indian – male or female – to have won gold in a track event at the world level.

Many celebrities also took to social media to congratulate Hima. For instance, Shraddha Kapoor tweeted “Congratulations on your well-deserved gold medal! @HimaDas8 .. Your success story is going to inspire so many girls and women to push the limits. I am one of them today”. Farhan Akhtar also tweeted Congratulations #HimaDas 400 meter winner in world Under-20 championships.. proud moment. It’s amazing that it coincides with the 5 year anniversary of Bhaag Milkha Bhaag & Milkha-ji’s biggest dream was to witness an Indian athlete win Gold in track & field.  Prime Minister Narendra Modi also congratulated this young and inspiring girl.  Taking to Twitter, the Prime Minister said he was “moved” by the 18-year-old’s “passionate search for the tricolor” and emotions while singing the national anthem after her win.

Hima Das historic triumph has made her a symbol of national pride. Everyone cheered Hima for her outstanding feat, the 18-year-old couldn’t hold her emotions and teared up as she stood at the top of the podium, proudly, singing the national anthem. And this young athlete will be provided with full support towards her preparation for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics under the government’s ‘ Target Olympic Podium Scheme’.

Heartiest congratulations to Hima Das on her victory and we hope her incredible achievement inspires millions of young girls in the country to pursue their dreams and bring pride to the nation.
