PM Modi, South Korean President Moon Jae-in inaugurate world’s largest mobile factory in Noida

Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with South Korean President Moon Jae-in inaugurated Samsung’s 35-acre plant in Noida. The two leaders took a metro ride to the world’s largest mobile manufacturing unit in Noida. Eager crowds jostled to greet the leaders.
The inauguration ceremony was also attended by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and senior Samsung officials including Vice Chairman Jay Y Lee. Speaking on the occasion, the South Korean President said the new Samsung unit will provide jobs to local people. He also recalled the decades-long relations between India and South Korea and said that India and Korea are now riding the digital wave to achieve growth.
The two leaders also discussed about ‘Make in India’ and ‘Make for India’. President Moon and Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the plant after its expansion. It will now produce around 1.2 crore phones a month and will employ approximately 70,000 people.
This Samsung unit is the world’s largest mobile unit. It is not a surprise that South Korean giant chose India to set up this unit. There are nearly 40 crore smartphone users in India and with Prime Minister Modi’s Digital India revolution, the number is growing exponentially.  Modi said Samsung acquired an important position in the daily lives of the people of India.
“Almost every middle-class Indian family is using at least one Korean product. Samsung has a distinct space in India. India is going through a digital transformation and I encourage more companies from South Korea to come and invest here,” Modi said. He also added that the government’s ‘Make in India’ initiative is not just an economic policy measure, but also a commitment of better ties with friendly nations like South Korea. He further added that 30% of the smartphones made at the Noida plant would be exported.
PM Modi also reflected on the benefits of the GeM saying that the scheme has helped the government to purchase products directly from the producers, thereby profiting the small and medium entrepreneurs.  The new manufacturing unit is a step towards making India a manufacturing hub. He said it is a matter of pride that India is home to the world’s largest Samsung unit.
Last year, India overtook the US to become the world’s second-largest smartphone market after China.
