Indian Revenue Service officer Durishetty Anudeep topped the coveted civil services 2017 examination whose results were announced yesterday by Union Public Service Commission, breaking a three-year line of female candidates bagging the top spot. While talking to the media, Anudeep said, “I am really happy to get this result today. I am grateful to all the people who supported me throughout. It was not an easy journey, but I am happy to be here.”
Anu Kumari and Sachin Gupta bagged the second and third positions, respectively, in the coveted examination.
Sachin Gupta, belonging to small trader family based in Sirsa town, ranked third in his third attempt.
Presently working as Assistant Director in the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, he said he was inspired to join the civil services by his father who is a farmer in Sirsa town. His mother Sushma Gupta is a government school teacher.
About Durishetty Anudeep
Anudeep hails from Metpally in Telangana’s Jagityal district and belongs to Other Backward Classes (OBC) category. He qualified for the examination with Anthropology as his optional subject. He had graduated with BE (Electronics and Instrumentation) degree from BITS, Pilani. His father is an assistant divisional engineer with the Northern Power Distribution Company Limited of Telangana. During his training in the IRS, he stood first in the batch in weapons training programme held at the National Industrial Security Academy, Hyderabad. Anudeep has opted for Telangana cadre to serve his native state.
On the other hand, Anu Kumari, the topper among the female candidates, has graduated with BSc (Hons) in Physics from the Delhi University and has done an MBA (Finance and Marketing) from IMT, Nagpur. A mother of four years old, Anu spent close to ten hours each day preparing for the examination. She feels passionate about issues related to women and children and wishes to work in that field once she is posted.
