President Ram Nath Kovind presents Padma awards

The President of India, Ramnath Kovind presented Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and the Padma Shri awards at a ceremony held at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.The ceremony, held at the majestic Durbar Hall, was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Vice President Venkaiah Naidu, and Home Minister Rajnath Singh apart from other dignitaries

The government announced names of the recipients on the occasion of the 69th Republic Day, which included Music maestro Ilaiyaraja and cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni.  Indian ace shuttler player Kidambi Shrikanth also conferred with Padma Shri Award. Former Asian Games gold medalist tennis player Somdev Devvarman also got felicitated with the country’s fourth-highest civilian award, Padma Shri. Erstwhile  Indian cricket team captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni and brilliant snooker player Pankaj Advani were awarded Padma Bhushan, but both the players did not attend the ceremony for different reasons. Weightlifter Saikhom Mirabai Chanu who was awarded Padma Shri was also not present.

85 recipients were selected for the prestigious awards including two duo cases this year. This comprises 3 Padma Vibhushan, 9 Padma Bhushan, and 73 Padma Shri awards. Fourteen of the awardees are women, while sixteen persons are foreigners and three have been awarded posthumously.
